Carefree Winter Driving For Your Denver Area Drive

Colorado winter driving tips

The winter weather has been making its appearance to us this autumn and that means a lot of different driving conditions to deal with. Going from slippery roads with leaves and rain to snow and ice sometimes in the same day can make for a scary drive. But if your Ford vehicle has been maintained correctly and with the right tires, your drive can be much safer. If you check out your Ford’s user manual, you can see the mileage different services should be done at. Sticking as close to the maintenance schedule as possible can greatly improve your performance in the snow. If you haven’t kept up with the regular maintenance, there are still some steps you can take.

First and foremost, if your battery hasn’t been replaced in a while, now would be the best time to change it out. All the cold starts during the winter can cause your battery to wear a lot quicker. The windshield wipers should also be replaced because you’ll be using them a lot, which also means keeping your windshield wiper fluid reservoir full. This goes the same for your antifreeze – both areas should be inspected to make sure there are no leaks or cracks.

The tires on your Ford are very important for handling and traction while driving through the snow. If your tires aren’t properly inflated or the tread is worn, you will have trouble getting traction. If you’re not sure about the tread, you can always administer the penny test to check them yourself. Take a penny and stick it upside down in a tire.  If you can see the top of Abraham Lincoln’s head, it’s time for new tires.

Here at Mike Naughton Ford near Denver, Colorado we have a great crew of service technicians available to give your Ford vehicle a full inspection. They know what areas to inspect to ensure your drive is as safe as possible!
