We are so far being spoiled with beautiful Fall weather but winter is just around the corner. Did you know that Fall is the best time to start getting your vehicle ready for winter driving? The Fall months are a great time to test out whether your vehicle is prepared or not. Here are some things you may want to do before hitting the road in winter:
* Get your vehicle serviced. If your vehicle has not been checked out by a mechanic for several months, get it serviced before the winter weather arrives. Some areas to have checked are the battery/charging system, brakes, fluids, oil, cooling system, exhaust, and air filter.
* Replace Windshield Wiper Blades. You should always replace your windshield wiper blades before snowy weather begins. Effective wipers will improve your visibility and help keep you safer on the roads.
* Check Your Tires. When the winter comes, it is extremely important to monitor your tires. Check the tread and the tire pressure to ensure they are acceptable.
* Monitor Your Fuel Level. It is also important to remember to monitor your fuel level in colder weather. Keep your gas level at above half a tank when possible.
* Check Your Lights. When bad weather hits and visibility is an issue, remember that your lights are extremely important. Check headlights, brake lights, and turn signals to ensure all are in working order.
* Always Carry an Emergency Kit. Finally, make sure you have an emergency kit stowed in the back of your car. Yes, it does take up some space but you will be thankful to have it if you experience a roadside emergency! This type of kit should include flares, blankets, cold weather gear, non-perishable snacks, jumper cables, shovel, sand or kitty litter, flashlight with extra batteries, tires chains, an extra cell phone and charger, and a first aid kit.
